It is brought to you courtesy of ELMS - Everything Local Media Solutions. ELMS is the trading name of Estelle Lockett Sullivan. Hello Portishead is the social media subsidiary of the website(s) www.everythingportishead.co.uk and www.helloportishead.co.uk , both owned and operated by ELMS.
JOINING OUR FACEBOOK GROUP:
Approval to join this group is not automatic. In order to protect our members from being inundated with spam information, to prevent access to false profiles and to keep with the spirit of local community the “Hello Portishead” administrators will check your connection to Portishead before your request to join is approved. This process should take no more than 48 hours. It is your responsibility to make your connection clear.
POSTING IN OUR FACEBOOK GROUP AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER:
“Hello Portishead” is a community noticeboard, a forum for hearty, healthy and helpful conversation. The purpose of this group is to keep members connected with each other and to what is going on in the community. We want this to be a safe space where communications are informative and engaging, supportive and helpful. In order to achieve this we ask you to carefully consider your postings before you publish them and respect the diversity of the group.
Our administrators are volunteers, working to the group rules and ethos as published here. We have some basic rules, however, in addition the administrators reserve the right to remove posts or comments that are deemed inflammatory and cause more harm than good to the majority; or are not in alignment with the purpose of this group. The following basic rules apply for your safety and to protect the quality of your user experience:
OUTCOME FOR NON-COMPLIANCE IS IMMEDIATE REMOVAL WITHOUT EXPLANATION.
1. SHAMING OTHERS BY NAME
This is not the forum for you to voice your dislike of other people within this group or the wider community. Posts that include the identification of others for the purpose of shaming, humiliation and embarrassment have no place here. Past experience has taught us that these can quickly become liable cases of character defamation. We do not condone trial by media.
2. NO HATE SPEECH
There is no place for Hate Speech on this platform or any communication which is threatening or abusive, incites violence against others or is intended to harass, alarm or distress someone. Hate speech is defined as an expression of hatred towards another on account of that person’s colour, race, disability, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or sexual orientation. The laws states that penalties for hate speech include fines, imprisonment or both.
3. VERBAL ABUSE, HARASSMENT AND OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE
Any posting that is verbally abusive, causes harassment or contains offensive language will be removed without explanation. Please note that offensive language includes all swear words. For the purposes of this group, the administration considers ‘Trolling’ to be part of this category of offences.
This group operates under the assumption that the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 applies. Harassment, in the legal sense, is behaviour that appears to be disturbing or threatening.
" The aim of this Bill is to protect the victims of harassment. It will protect all such victims whatever the source of the harassment.”
4. ADMIN BLOCKING AND ADMIN BASHING
Please note that the administrators are all volunteers who are doing the best job they can to keep the group operating. If you need to get in touch with us please do so by writing a post marked FAO Admin, followed by your query, on the group wall. You will then be contacted by private message within 5 working days of receipt, please note that this private message might end up in your alternative message folder. With more than 8000 members our administrators are always busy, help us streamline the process!
Please do NOT block administrators, it prevents them from moderating the group effectively. Administrators do not deserve to be verbally abused by community members who have failed to abide by the group rules and have consequently had their posts or themselves removed from the group. Anyone who speaks inappropriately to or about the administration, either within this group or posting in other groups will be removed and further action considered.
5. PARKING AND ANIMAL POO
Whilst these might be topics for discussion and a cause for concern in the local community we will not approve them in this group. This is due to the sheer volume we receive which would dominate the newsfeed. Please find an alternative forum to raise concern and awareness around these topics.
ASKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS IN OUR FACEBOOK GROUP:
We understand that community recommendations are important and that asking the community is the best way to find a product or supplier quickly but we cannot endorse any of the recommendations made to you unless the business has been registered and reviewed on our website. We are making every effort to give you a trusted resource for recommendations ensuring that you receive a quality local product or service. We encourage all local businesses to join our website (for free) where they can be rated, recommended and reviewed by happy clients. Please feel free to recommend or review a local business or service so you can help others make a choice from our website directory: http://www.everythingportishead.co.uk/directory
If you want the community to help you find a product, service or business we have a dedicated daily post called “WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR TODAY”. You can engage with this thread and receive instant responses from the community by comment, without waiting for admin approval. If you post a recommendation request directly on the group wall it will not be approved as we want to keep all this valuable information in one tidy, accessible daily resource. This is not an opportunity for local businesses to make a direct sell, avoiding the need to register on our business directory and skirting the posting rules for business interactions with this platform, it is an opportunity for local people to share their knowledge – please respect this and follow the requested procedure for local businesses.
POSTING IN OUR FACEBOOK GROUP FOR RECRUITMENT OR FINANCIAL GAIN:
Job listings, property rental and purchase and buy, sell and swap are specialist areas that belong in the classifieds section of our linked community website, or in specialist social media groups. If you would like to use our social media resource for this purpose then please register on our website: Everything Portishead www.everythingportishead.co.uk. Then go to the classifieds section and create your post. Once a day our admin team will post the “classifieds” link into the facebook group encouraging eyes on your items.
