Urban Styling

Hairdressing is my passion I never wanted to do anything else and am very fortunate to have spent over 30 years in a job that I love doing. Having spent time working in salons and the last 10 years teaching at a college it was time to use experience and knowledge to open a business locally hence Urban Styling was formed.

Myself and business partner wanted to offer quality salon services to all age groups at competitive prices in relaxed surroundings. Over the years there is no hair problems or disasters that we haven’t seen and are always happy to talk ‘hair’ please feel free to come in for a no obligation consultation.

As well as the salon and barber shop we offer NVQ qualifications in hairdressing and barbering as well as day courses such as bridal hair and plaiting.

Hairdressing is a rewarding, fun career but competitive so quality of training is vital. We only work with small groups to allow 1-1 training which allows learners to learn skills faster. Our courses are suitable for school leavers to mature students and we firmly believe that age is not a barrier, you are never too old to learn new skills. Most of our mature students have always wanted to do hairdressing but never had the opportunity or are looking for a career change. We work in partnership with Weston College and can provide free courses for under 19 and learning loans if you are over 19. From September we will be offering local businesses the chance to send their apprentices to us for training rather than travelling into Bristol or Weston.

The advice to anyone who’s ever thought about a career in hairdressing is to go for it your never too old. I am so proud that my former students are in industry doing well as stylists, salon owners, session stylists and teachers. I keep in touch with lots of them and it’s great to think that I’ve shaped their future.

Although I live in Portishead I always worked in Bristol so having a business here has allowed me to get to know local people and be more involved in the wonderful local community that we have here. It’s also made me aware of how vital it is to support local businesses.

So what’s the future for Urban Styling? Well we are planningto refurbish the salon as we need to expand our training area. As the salon gets busier we would like to create job opportunities for local people that we have trained . We also hope that local salons/barbers will use us for training their staff. We are looking at starting a blog where we can answer any of your hair related questions. We now have an online booking system where you can book services 24 hours via our website or facebook page.

Our door is always open so whether you want hair advice or information on our courses please pay US a visit
